The 2024 Elephant marks the first kilo issue in the new Big Five III series by the South African Mint. Struck from 1 kilogram (32.15 oz) of 0.999 fine silver in Proof quality, this impressive coin carries a denomination of 5 rand and is strictly limited to just 100 pieces worldwide. Each coin is delivered in the original wooden box with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. This release represents the second-ever 1 kilo silver Elephant. The obverse features a full-body depiction of a mature African elephant, accompanied by the inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA,” “BIG FIVE 2024,” and the national coat of arms. The reverse follows the signature series concept: two halves of an elephant’s head form a complete close-up portrait when two coins are placed together. Multiple coins arranged side by side create the visual impression of an entire herd. The center displays “FIVE RAND,” “1kg,” and “Ag 999.”
